La cerimonia di premiazione dei 64esimi Grammy Awards, inizialmente prevista a Los Angeles in gennaio e poi rimandata causa Covid, ha avuto luogo ieri sera alla MGM Grand Garden Arena di Las Vegas. È stato l’anno di Jon Batiste, Olivia Rodrigo, Foo Fighters e Silk Sonic. Il primo ha portato a casa cinque premi tra cui quello per l’album dell’anno, We Are. Rodrigo, che ha cantato Drivers Licence, ha vinto tre Gammy, tra cui quello come miglior nuova artista.
In campo rock non c’è stata storia: dopo la morte di Taylor Hawkins, i Foo Fighters hanno portato a casa i premi per l’album (Medicine at Midnight), per la canzone (Waiting on a War) e la performance (Making a Fire). Leave the Door Open dei Silk Sonic di Bruno Mars e Anderson .Paak è l’incisione e la canzone dell’anno. L’album alternative è Daddy’s Home di St. Vincent. Il grande assente Kanye West ha vinto nella categoria Best Rap Song con Jail.
Tra i performer della serata, Silk Sonic, Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Billie Eilish (con una t-shirt col viso di Hawkins), BTS, Brandi Carlile, Lady Gaga (con un tributo a Tony Bennett), Jon Batiste, Nas, Chris Stapleton, che ha primeggiato nelle categorie country. Taylor Hawkins è stato ricordato con un montaggio video.
È stato trasmesso un videomessaggio di Volodymyr Zelensky a cui ha fatto seguito un omaggio all’Ucraina da parte di John Legend, che ha presentato con Mika Newtown e Lyuba Yakimchuk la nuova Free. I Glass Animals non hanno potuto partecipare alla cerimonia a causa di una positività al Covid.
